“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1

The temperatures are below zero and the wind is blowing 30 miles an hour as I get out of my vehicle to grab the mail from my mailbox on the county road. As I exit my Suburban and stand in the wind one word comes to mind…bleak.
Wind whips across the prairie cutting through my coat and penetrating my skin. Snow blows across the ground making everything look desolate and cold. Something makes me pause and take in the scene. A lone tree in the distance looks bleak and beautiful. There is something about living in this harsh land that tugs at my soul.
The winters are long and harsh and sometimes feel endless. However, I know there is a promise of spring-time and the coming beauty of summer and fall. In the middle of winter when all is white and quiet and cold, I cannot see the joy of the coming seasons but I know they are there waiting for me.
It is like the hope I have in Christ. I hope for what I cannot see (Romans 8:24-25). Knowing that the bleakness of this life is bringing forth an abundance of Heaven. Embracing the bleak knowing that soon there is a coming…the coming of Christ.
Our hope is in Christ.
