If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. But even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”
Daniel 3:17-18
My husband and I have been busy preparing our house for the arrival of our second child. The other day, I was shampooing the carpets in the empty room we are moving our toddler into when I looked up and saw the only thing that had been left hanging on the wall: a sign that read He Is Still Good.
My mind jumped back to another empty room that that same sign had hung in several years ago…an empty nursery. The room had been remodeled in preparation for a baby, but after two miscarriages and a struggle to get pregnant again, it sat empty of furniture, baby clothes, and everything else you’d typically find in a nursery. At that point in time, I cried every time I walked past the room, and the door usually stayed shut. I eventually purchased the He Is Still Good sign and hung it up in the nursery as a physical reminder to myself of God’s faithfulness even in deep valleys. Over time, I sat and let my faith grow and my heart and mind heal in that empty nursery with only one thing hanging on the wall: He Is Still Good.
I have a beautiful and growing family now, but in that season, my faith was deeply refined, and I reconditioned my heart to accept His will and His goodness, even when my prayers weren't answered.
We have all walked through difficult seasons and deep valleys in life. The Christian walk is not easy, but our faith is refined through fire, and we often grow nearer to God in situations where we rediscover our desperate need for Him. We can rest assured that His faithfulness and His character never changes. No matter the outcome, no matter the timing, no matter the suffering, He Is Still Good.
